Our flinkey API is growing
Grouping via the API

We are constantly working on making the handling of flinkey as easy and efficient as possible for our integration partners. In doing so, we deal openly with our partners and find adaptations and improvements for our system together. Our current development relates to the grouping of elements via an extension of our API (application programming interface).

With the new function, it is now possible to create several groups in your environment. You can decide yourself which vehicles, users, services and products should be assigned to this group. This enables you to differentiate efficiently in your system environment.

Grouping includes creating, updating, and deleting groups, assigning items to a group, removing items from a group, and requesting items assigned to a group. These items can be vehicles, users, services, or products.

1. How to create groups?

In order to be able to use the grouping, initially a group needs to be created. This can be done via the PUT request. Select and define the name of the group. Further information on creating groups can be found in our documentation on the flinkey API. With a successful request, the group is already available for the next steps.

If the name of a group changes, it can be easily adjusted via the Update Group” request.

2. How to assign elements to a group?

Once a group exists in the system, vehicles, users, services and products can be assigned to this group. It is up to you which elements and how many you want to assign to the group. This is realized via a PUT request in connection with the group ID and the element (e.g. vehicle) that is to be assigned to the group. A detailed description can be found in the flinkey API documentation under “Assign car to group”.

3. Overview of existing groups and group elements

If groups have been integrated in the system for a long time, but are rarely used, the group ID or the group name may be forgotten. To get an overview of all groups in your system, you can use the Get groups request to display all groups including the names and IDs.

If it is unclear which vehicles, users, services or products are assigned to a group, this can also be determined via the API. The GET request is extended by the corresponding group ID and the element that is being searched for. An example of this would be the Get cars of group request from our flinkey API documentation.

4. Group Management

The simple and straightforward administration of groups includes not only the addition of elements, but also the quick deactivation of elements from a group. With the help of the Delete user from group” request, a user can easily be removed from a group. All that is needed is the group ID and the user ID. The same can be applied to all the other elements. Here, the request is adapted to the corresponding elements to be removed.

5. Conclusion

With the further development of our API, the management of groups will be even easier in the future. We have implemented the feedback from our customers and integration partners so that fleet management via the flinkey portal will be even more efficient.
