How will the flinkey box be installed?

Quick Start:

  1. Open the portal via the link sent by us (mail folder, check spam if necessary) and log in.
  2. Create a car and assign it to a user (if you want to use the car yourself, put yourself up as a user)
  3. Now assign the box to the car.
  4. Download the flinkey app from the store and log in with the same access data as for the portal
  5. Turn the box on (Turn On), place it in the car (the battery lasts 21 days when fully charged) and connect it to the 12V plug, if necessary (cable is included in the package)
  6. Now, the car appears in the app, as well as an open and close icon. Touch the desired icon.
  7. Done. From now on the car is in the digital world - with flinkey.

The installation is very easy and takes less than five minutes. The flinkey box is already in your user account of the WITTE Digital portal.

First, you log in to the portal with your personal access data (if you are the contract owner/buyer, you have received access data from us under the same e-mail address). Add a car by switching to the section "cars" and set up the car via "add". Here you can upload a picture and enter some vehicle data. After saving, click on the three grey shaded points above, select "manage products" and then assign the box in the installation menu by clicking on "assign" (assigned products appear below under "assignments").

The only thing missing is the assignment of users. You as buyer, are usually already created as a user, so jump to the auto section. There you will see a green dot next to the flinkey box or dongle on the far right of your car picture (your product has been successfully assigned). Click on the three action points on the left of the vehicle picture and select "details" in the drop-down menu. Click on "assign user" and select the period you think is right - one day, one week or unlimited. Use the "Invite" button to invite other people to have access to the selected vehicle. You can assign roles at the bottom of the page. Note: If you would like to invite additional people via the app, check the box at the bottom left of your assignment and click "enable/disable owner role" (a green dot will appear at the bottom right of your assignment for "is owner".

The installation is done!

Now turn on the box with the slider (Turn on). Then place the box with the car key inside, in the vehicle. For example, in the trunk or in the legroom of the passenger. We recommend to choose a place within reach of a 12 volt power plug. Otherwise, each box contains a built-in battery that allows you to use flinkey for 21 days on a full charge. You can stick the included tape to the bottom of the box to hook the box even more securely to the carpet. Make sure that the drawer of the box is easy to reach. Other than that - no further "assembly" necessary.

Now start the flinkey app and log in with your access data of the portal. Your car appears, as well as an open and a close icon. Tap on it, to lock or unlock the car digitally.

Can the flinkey app be used with any smartphone?

The app is available for iOS and Android, so actually for all mobile phones.

Does my vehicle have to meet any special requirements for flinkey?

No, flinkey works with most vehicle models - as long as they can be opened with a radio key. If you want to know if we also support your car, just enter your vehicle data here. If you can't find a suitable key, let us know. We will do our best to welcome you at flinkey soon

How much is flinkey?

The pricing for flinkey depends strongly on your use case. Depending on the number of fleet sizes and whether you are comfortable with Box and Portal or whether you need our SDK and API, we will work with you to create an offer that fits your specific business needs.

How does the keyless opening and closing of a car work with flinkey?

flinkey combines digital and traditional locking technology. The physical car key is safely stored in the flinkey box in the vehicle. The box itself is locked as soon as the car is locked. If the car is open, you can also open the box if you need a key to start the engine. If not, this always remains safe in the flinkey box. The car is displayed in the flinkey app to all persons who have an access authorization from the owner. If you want to use it, you give the box a digital command to operate the key via an encrypted Bluetooth connection: If the vehicle is locked, it will be opened. If it is open, it will be locked.

How secure is flinkey?

Very secure. flinkey meets the highest standards in terms of data security and encryption technology. Opening and closing a car via smartphone is done offline and via an encrypted Bluetooth connection. Our tested procedure ensures reliable authentication on the box or car. Each individual flinkey box is secured with its own cryptographic key.

What about my car insurance if I use flinkey?

In principle, everything stays exactly as you know it. The vehicle owner himself takes care of all insurance for his vehicles and all drivers. If necessary, you should coordinate your plans briefly with your insurance company.

Where exactly is the data collected by flinkey?

The data we collect with the system is stored on servers in Western Europe. We work with the experienced cloud provider Microsoft Azure, the most certified company in the industry. The data backup complies with European guidelines and is, of course, DSGVO-compliant. Further details can be found in our privacy policy.


Can I determine which drivers use my car?

Sure. Of course, you retain full control over who you let drive your car around. You assign and revoke authorizations individually and at any time individually for each user.

How can I give others access to my car?

Simply via the flinkey app or in the portal. Choose the car you want to share with others. View the list of all people involved and unlock the drivers. If the list is empty or you want to invite more people, you can easily do it via WhatsApp, Email or SMS. Once your invitation is accepted, you can share your car.

How do I manage access permissions to my car?

Simply by using the list of users in your flinkey app or in the portal. Anyone marked as active will be able to use your car if it is available. If you want to withdraw an account (temporarily), you set its authorization to "not active". If you want to reactivate the account, simply undo this action. You can also plan future permissions with start and end times.

What happens if my car is not returned in time?

We trust in your tact and sensitivity. Please clarify disputes civilized, always.


Does the flinkey box need maintenance?

If you don't supply your box with power via the 12V connection of your vehicle, it is advisable to check every now and then whether the battery has enough charge, because even 21 days running time will eventually be over. Otherwise, you don't have to do anything. If software updates are pending, we will inform you about the flinkey App.

Can you tell from my car that it has a digital key?

Of course, that depends on where you place the flinkey box. Basically this is kept relatively unobtrusive in a discreet colour and is not so easy to recognise from the outside.

How big is the flinkey box?

The flinkey box is about as big as a box of four eggs... a little bigger maybe.

What do I do if the box no longer works and I don't have a spare key to open my car?

Then call our hotline. They will be happy to help you with your troubleshooting. If nothing works out, we'll get you a tow truck to the nearest garage. They'll make you ready to drive again in no time. If the fault lies with the flinkey box, the towing costs you of course nothing at all. We'll cover the costs. If you have any questions, you can of course contact our hotline at any time.


How does the flinkey App work?

With the flinkey App you manage your cars and those you are allowed to use. Via the menu you can select a vehicle. You will now be shown whether this is currently being used or is out of range. If it is available, you can use the map to guide you to the location. Once you are within the radius of a secure Bluetooth connection (about 10 meters), you can unlock the car using the flinkey app. All information about your own vehicles and yourself can be found in the profile.

What happens if my phone is lost or stolen?

Then it's best you buy yourself a new one quickly. Until then, you can also use a friend's. All you have to do is download the flinkey app, log into your account and everything will work as usual. Just don't forget to log out before you return the phone.

What if the phone's dead?

Of course, this is unpleasant. The best thing to do is to find a power source in your area and lock the car normally via the flinkey app after charging. If you are in a hurry or have no chance to get electricity, you can easily register with your account using a friend's flinkey app. Please do not forget to log out. Do I have to pay extra for the app?

The flinkey app is free of charge. Only the use of flinkey itself requires a monthly fee paid by the owner of the car. However, there is no limitation in the number of co-users.

Can I use the flinkey App on my computer?

I'm afraid I can't. Besides, I'm sure it's a little impractical for you to unlock your car with a computer. So you better use your cell phone.

What happens if I no longer have an Internet connection or data volume?

This is not a problem because the system also works offline. Your phone only needs to be online once every 7 days to update your digital key.

Can I use flinkey with a foreign mobile phone?

Basically, yes. It is important that you are logged in with your account. Please do not forget to log out.

My flinkey app doesn't do what it's supposed to. How can I give feedback?

Of course this is not optimal, sorry! We always try to make flinkey a bit better and would be happy if you help us with your feedback. In the flinkey app under your profile you will find the option to send us your observations. If you are unable to use important functions, please contact our hotline.
